Case Study – Smart Lighting For NDIS Provider

Client: NDIS Participant, NDIS Provider -Yellow Card Helpers
Challenge: Malfunctioning smart lighting system affecting health, safety and wellbeing

Background:
An NDIS participant living with a neurological condition, relied on a smart lighting system for daily functioning and safety. The lights were programmed to turn on and off automatically to support her mobility and routine. However, the system began malfunctioning—lights were switching on and off at random times. This was a risk to her health, potentially triggering her epilepsy. It was also disrupting her sleep, increasing anxiety, and creating a significant falls risk during the night.

The Problem:
The issue was reported on a Friday at 3:15 PM—just as most trades businesses were closing for the weekend. The client faced an unsafe and distressing situation heading into the weekend.

Our Response:
Our team recognised the urgency. Within 15 minutes, a licensed NDIS electrician from Cairns Electrical and Data Services was dispatched to the home. By 5:30 PM, the faulty component in the home automation system was identified and replaced, and the settings were reprogrammed to suit the client’s needs.

The Outcome:
The client’s lights were functioning correctly again. Preventing potential health risks, restoring her sense of safety, independence, and peace of mind.
